Following Atticus: Forty-Eight High Peaks, One Little Dog, and an Extraordinary Friendship by Tom Ryan is published by William Morrow. It tells the story of my adventures with Atticus M. Finch, a little dog of some distinction. You can also find our column in the NorthCountry News.

Bonds Traverse: Take Three

This morning, while talking to a friend on the phone, he referred to me as hiking's version of Mitt Romney for changing my tune and cancelling this trip once again (due to high winds). Ouch. I am happy to report my priorities are in place, however, and they start and finish with a little dog who shouldn't end up in Belmont because some gust of wind carries him off of Bondcliff. So tomorrow we are set to try again. The Mt. Washington Observatory calls for warm temperatures and mild winds for above treeline. Kim Caston will be dropping Atticus and myself off at the trail head in Lincoln Woods sometime between 6:00 and 6:30 in the morning. Atticus and I hope to be back at our waiting Honda Fit sometime before 9:00 tomorrow night, beating the incoming storm by a couple of hours. Stay tuned. Yours truly, Mitt. (By the way, both photos are from the second Bonds traverse we did last winter. Both are of Atticus on top of Bond. First shot is of him looking at Bondcliff. Second, looking at West Bond and Franconia Ridge behind that.)
