He sits and thinks of the things they know, He and the Forest, alone together… ~ A.A. Milne

  1. Atticus M. Finch v. Groucho Marx and Winston Churchill

Had Groucho Marx met Atticus M. Finch he may have thought twice about his hypothesis that:

“[O]utside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.”

Atticus has a light that shines so bright from within that a blind man cannot deny his brilliance. Yet, despite his light, there remains the stoic mystery of all that is Atticus, which allows us both an unexpected comfort and continual sense of wonder of the blessing that he is…

Reminds me of a more appropriate quote by Winston Churchil:

“[T]here is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” He, too would have modified that infamous statement had he gazed in those windows to such a wonderful soul.

So, can anyone dispute that Atticus M. Finch is not only affecting the present, no doubt the future – but credibly giving the past some pause?

    Anyone?

  2. Thanks for your thoughts, Constance. He's definitely a different soul tucked away in the little body.
