Following Atticus: Forty-Eight High Peaks, One Little Dog, and an Extraordinary Friendship by Tom Ryan is published by William Morrow. It tells the story of my adventures with Atticus M. Finch, a little dog of some distinction. You can also find our column in the NorthCountry News.

On Plum Island

Before we discovered the mountains together, Atticus and I used to take twice-daily strolls on Plum Island, just a few minutes drive from our State Street apartment. We stopped by there on Thursday after our visit at MSPCA Angell. I find it fitting that the Pemigewasset River, that runs just 15 yards from where I sit now, empties into the Merrimack and then into the Atlantic. The water here will eventually make its way down to Newburyport and out of the mouth of the Merrimack right next to Plum Island.
